Rotate, Tilt.. Does it Really Matter?

Did you know that to get optimal performance from your solar panels they need to be directed towards the sun to make the best use of the sunshine hours available?

This direction needs to be set in two ways – via a swivel, that allows the solar panels to be pointed in the direction of the path of the sun, and tilt, which allows the angle of the solar panel to be adjusted.

During the winter when sunshine is scarcer the difference in correct positioning of the solar panels is obvious. By using the solar panels more efficiently the amount of power generated through the solar panels can almost double. Without the tilt functionality, you are more likely to get plant debris, water or snow (in the Mighty South Island) reducing the efficiency of the solar panels and causing damage. By having the solar on an angle, it makes it harder for unwanted items to settle on the face of the solar panels.

Unfortunately, not all ‘solar powered’ VMS are the same with many differences between the output of the solar panel and not all manufacturers offer a swivel and tilt option.. However, all Ver-mac VMS trailers from RTL, except the 548 trailer offer a swivel and tilt system as standard to give you the most efficient charging system possible.

Pegasus Township

Pegasus 1

Over the past few years RTL have been partnering with our customers to offer a 'total solution' on large construction projects. This would often involve a full service from design and consultancy through to supply and installation.

In 2006, development got underway on New Zealand’s largest new town 25 kilometers north of Christchurch. Once completed, Pegasus will house 7000 residents and cover 340 hectares.

The total cost of the build is estimated at around $1 billion. This fully zoned community will also have an array of recreational facilities including a golf course, wetlands, a school, sporting grounds, a Resort hotel, a shopping precinct and a man made lake.

So far stages 1 to 5 have been completed. RTL managed the supply and installation of signs for the head contractor, HEB/ March, which enabled them to concentrate on the build. We employed another one of our customers, Sicon Ltd, to carry out the installation. This worked in well as Sicon hold the maintenance contract for the area so were familiar with all the specifications.

It has been an exciting process to see the growth of a township from what was once farmland and great to be part of that. If you are after a hassle free solution to a project you may have coming, contact an RTL representative for a free no obligation consultation on 0800 785 744.
