Barrowlights on unmanned sites: Anti-theft solution
Securing Barrowlights on Unmanned Sites: Addressing Theft Concerns
We understand the importance of protecting your investment like Barrowlights portable traffic lights, especially when used on long-term or unmanned sites. While we haven't received reports of theft, we acknowledge this constant risk and want to share some effective measures our customers have implemented to enhance security.
Innovative Security Solution: The Steel Plate Method – Good ol’ kiwi ingenuity!
Ongrade Drainage in Canterbury, developed an ingenious solution that has proven effective in deterring theft and ensuring uninterrupted operation:
Heavy Steel Plate: The Barrowlight is securely bolted to a large steel plate, making it challenging for a single person to move.
Increased Footprint: The larger size of the steel plate and Barrowlight combination makes it more difficult to transport, further discouraging potential theft.
Key Considerations for Long-Term Deployments
When planning to use Barrowlights on unmanned sites for extended periods, consider the following factors:
Length of Hire: Longer deployments may require more robust security measures. This could include security cameras in the area.
Site-Specific Risk Assessment: Evaluate the area for potential vandalism or theft risks.
Regular Inspections: Implement daily drive-by checks or inspections when possible.
Battery Management: Develop a battery swap-out plan to ensure continuous operation for extended use periods.
Ongrade Drainage swapped out their batteries every 2nd-3rd day to avoid any disruption. But have advised they could have pushed it out further.
Important Note While this steel plate method significantly reduces the risk of theft, it's important to note that it doesn't eliminate the risk entirely. However, it does create a substantial deterrent by making the unit more difficult to move and less attractive to potential thieves.
