November 2024 - Our Sustainability Journey Continues

NEW Soft Plastics Collection: To divert film from general waste, we installed a new Soft Plastics collection. Grant Gordon our Stores Manager is one of the staff members driving change. We sat down with Grant and interviewed him. Read how Grant is championing change:

Sustainability Strategy Launch: We also launched our Sustainability Strategy at our Auckland branch on Climate Action Day! We had a special guest - Nick from Go Well Consulting Ltd and Sue, Kourosh and Joanne present to the team. Nick has been helping us on our Sustainability journey, so it was great that he was able to share directly with our whole branch. It was a great morning, awesome interactive presentation, question and answer time and shared morning tea
RTL's Sustainability Strategy Launched

Employee Wellbeing Initiative: In November, we also rolled out an internal staff Wellbeing Support Form. This is a digital form, for our team to reach out (anonymously), if support is needed or have ideas on how we can improve wellbeing at RTL. Enquiries are handled by the Group H&S Manager.

October 2024 - Update from Joanne McMahon

We're partnering with Go Well Consulting to develop authentic, innovative solutions for recycling and repurposing these essential safety tools. We commit to transparency and will share our progress here regularly. Together, we're paving the way to a sustainable future where safety, environmental stewardship, and customer value go hand in hand.

As of October 2024, We are three months into recording our emissions, establishing a crucial baseline for future improvements. We have conducted its first carbon emission assessment, adhering to ISO 14064-1:2018 and GHG Protocol standards. We are measuring our carbon emissions to establish a baseline and start reducing emissions (SDG 7).

We will be adding more updates and information as we progress on our sustainability journey. Stay tuned for regular updates!

Measuring & Reducing Emissions article from October 2024, covers our progress in capturing emissions and share some of our findings:
Direct Emissions: These are emissions from sources that are owned or controlled directly by RTL.
Indirect Emissions from Energy Use: 
These emissions are associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling for RTL's operations
Other Other Indirect Emissions: 
This scope covers all other indirect emissions that occur in RTL's value chain, both upstream and downstream

RTL's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) include SDG 3, 7, 8, 10 & 12:

Emissions & Energy: To measure and reduce our emission, in line with climate science SDG: 7
Waste & Circularity: To embed circular economy design into all our products and packaging and achieve significant waste reduction SDG 8, SDG 12
Sustainable Procurement: Map our entire supply chain to gain visibility of all environmental risks and ensure there are no instances of human rights violations SDG 8
Working at RTL: RTL is known as a safe, inclusive place to work, where health, wellbeing and development of our people are championed SDG 3, SDG 10
Education & Collaboration: Foster strategic partnerships and collaboration within the road transport industry to help drive innovation towards achieving a circular decarbonised sector SDG 12
