Funding Now Available for Cycle Trail Electrification

We’re excited to share valuable information about the Government’s $3 million Electrifying the Great Rides Fund, designed to make our national cycle trails more accessible and appealing to both international tourists and local explorers. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has launched a significant initiative to support the electrification of New Zealand’s cycle trails. The first round of funding has already approved $478,750 for installing e-bike charging stations across two iconic Great Rides, with more opportunities on the horizon.

Key Funding Details:

• Total Fund Value: $3 million allocated to enhance cycle trail accessibility
• Eligibility: Initially limited to Great Rides, now expanded to include Heartland and Connector Rides in the second round
• Application Period: Second round opens August 1, 2025 for one month
