RTL goes Social

When we first looked at our social media landscape we were delighted to see the high level engagement our industry has online. Everyone from the NZTA, Auckland Transport, Councils across the country, our Customers and their TC's and other staff - were actively engaging on industry matters on Facebook , LinkedIn and Twitter.
Our research reaffirmed what we already knew i.e. it is critical for us to be engaging with our internal and external stakeholders on varied and diverse platforms. Our boss Joanne McMahon quoted her mentor saying 'if you are not on social media, you are not in the room'.

With a team of two in our Marketing Department, did we have the resources to branch out onto very public domains? To put ourselves out there - we need to have high quality, engaging, topical and relevant content. How can we manage our social media tasks efficiently and gain the benefits of this platform? We kicked into market research mode and started using social media management tools like HootSuite.

Our aims for social media are to show the personality of RTL, learn from our industry counterparts, stay abreast of industry developments in real time - and as an influencer in this marketplace - actively spread the message of Road Safety for all road users. It has been a fun and interesting journey so far - watch this space as we get better at it. (didwe mention it has also been FUN!)
