RTL Upgrades Deluge Signage for Waterview Tunnel
The Waterview Tunnel stretches over 2.4km and relies on well-designed, well-maintained deluge signage to support its safety and fire systems. More than 60 signs line the walls, spaced every 30 metres, marking the start and end of each fire suppression zone and helping crews quickly identify the correct location during an incident. Waterview Tunnel contracted RTL to supply and install 16 deluge signs in the northbound and southbound tunnels that needed upgrading. Working closely with the asset and maintenance teams, RTL manufactured the signs, while Directionz carried out the installation.
Each Deluge Sign measured 2400 x 1000 and was designed with black text on a white background to provide high contrast and clear location points for crews and motorists. For consistency, they were produced in the same format and layout as the original signs supplied by RTL in 2017.

The Directionz team completed installation during a planned night shift closure. The experienced crew successfully removed all the old signs and installed the 16 new ones - all in a single night and to the high standards expected by Waterview Tunnel.
By managing both supply and installation, RTL and Directionz ensured the project was completed safely and efficiently, with minimal disruption to tunnel operations. The new signage maintains the integrity and function of the deluge system, providing clear, consistent, and durable markers that support fast, confident emergency response.
