Ver-Mac VMS Trailer Communication Update: Getting back online with a 4G Upgrade
Getting Your VMS Trailers back online with 4G Upgrade.
RTL has worked closely with customers to navigate New Zealand's 3G network shutdown and keep Ver-Mac VMS trailers connected. While many trailers have already been upgraded, we know there are still some waiting to be updated.
The upgrade required depends on the type of touchscreen that is fitted to your trailer. Some models simply need a customer-supplied 4G SIM card, while others require a new embedded 4G modem and active antenna. Older touchscreens that are not 4G compatible will require a replacement touchscreen, modem and active antenna.
As of July 2026, Ver-Mac have confirmed the VPN service will remain available for existing New Zealand trailers.
What this means for your trailers:
- The upgrades required depend on the touchscreen installed
- Some touchscreens may only need a simcard change (customer supplied), while others may require a new embedded modem & active antenna
- Older touchscreens that cannot be upgraded to 4G will need a new touchscreen with embedded modem, which RTL can supply and install.

Next steps:
Our team can help assess each trailer’s touchscreen and modem type, and guide you through the right upgrade pathway.
- Open the control cabinet
- Open the front cover by turning the dial
- Take a clear, high-resolution photo of the back of the touchscreen
- Note down the VMS Serial Number and the trailer’s registration plate
- Make a submission for advice and support, using this link: Book a Service
Touchscreens and modems are in stock, but supplies are limited, so we recommend arranging upgrades sooner rather than later to avoid delays.

Ver-mac VMS Trailers: 10 Year Data Plan
All new Ver-Mac VMS trailers supplied by RTL now include a 10-year Ver-Mac data plan and Ver-Mac SIM card as standard. Previously, customers supplied their own SIM card and mobile data plan. The new approach simplifies setup and ensures every new trailer is ready to connect to JamLogic from day one. After 10 years, the data plan can be renewed to maintain remote connectivity.
