RTL Supplies Complete Signage Package for Queenstown Arterial Road Project

Project Overview
The RTL team were proud to supply comprehensive signage to the Whakatipu Transport Programme Alliance (WTPA) for the Queenstown Arterial Road project.
We delivered a complete signage package including two Type 1 and two Type 0 Monopoles designed for installation over footpaths, with the remaining signage mounted on fluted poles. In total, approximately 25 directional signs were supplied alongside a range of permanent/ regulatory signs and street name blades for this significant infrastructure project.
The Queenstown Arterial Road linked Melbourne and Henry Streets, providing an alternative route to the town centre and easier access towards Arthurs Point. Stage 1 of the project was co-funded by a $50m contribution from the Government's Infrastructure Reference Group (IRG) fund, improving access for public transport and created opportunities for more pedestrian-friendly streets.
The project was part of the Kā Huanui a Tāhuna Alliance, a partnership between Queenstown Lakes District Council, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, and design and construction companies.
Practical Signage Solutions
The guide sign component went live at the start of the year with Devon Gee, Our Territory Manager managing final designs and liaising with Road Sign Supports Ltd and the Project Teams. We were committed to working with all stake holders, ensuring supported an on-time delivery within tight deadlines.
The monopole sign supports were selected for their advantages in urban environments with space constraints and pedestrian traffic. Type 0 Monopoles support signs up to 2.88m², while Type 1 Monopoles support larger signs between 2.88m² and 6.25m². At one installation site, our team provided a shallow base solution to work around challenging geology, significantly simplifying the installation process for the construction crew.
"The single-pole design makes these monopoles practical for installation over footpaths and in locations where multiple pole supports aren't possible due to embankments or medians," notes Devon. "Their placement enhances both driver and pedestrian safety."
